Top 20 Best Cydia Apps Of 2012

Today, we bring to you the top 20 applications for a jailbroken iPhone. Of course, we all know that a jailbroken iPhone means the existence of Cydia icon on your springboard. If you still don’t know what we are talking about then please refer to our jailbreak guide.

Moving along, 2011 proved to be the most productive year of Apple. With the Devs coming up with new apps, being sued by who once were their allies, Steve passing away and the introduction of the spanking new iOS 5 and a little disappointingly familiar iPhone 4S, now 4S isn’t as much of a success as it could have been but at least, we have now someone who’d listen to our rambling ons (Siri)!

The launching of iOS 5 was accepted as a challenge by the Devs and soon enough they were able to give us a jailbreak for Apple’s greatest work yet. The jailbreak brought about a wave of new Cydia applications compatible with the iOS 5. We are now going to tell you which one of those apps made their way into our hearts and our iDevices.

It’s been less then 24 hours since iOS 5 was released and we already have a jailbreak for you with the courtesy of iH8sn0w who has just announced that the current versions of Redsn0w and sn0wbreeze can jailbreak iOS 5. But we must tell you here that this is a tethered jailbreak. And it supports iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G, iPad 1, iPhone3GS, iPhone4 (GSM) and iPhone4 (CDMA).

Things you will need before starting:

Now, Let’s begin!

Step 1: Connect your iDevice with your PC via USB, and open iTunes 10.5 and Restore to iOS 5.0.

Step 2: Open Redsn0w, press on “Extras > Select IPSW” and direct it to iOS 5.0 firmware ipsw file.

Step 3: Select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”. Optionally (if available), you can also select any other option you like.

Step 4: Make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to your PC before you click “Next”.

Step 5: Now, you will be guided on how to enter DFU mode on your iDevice. Quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. After few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins. If done right, you will have your iDevice jailbroken in a few minutes.

UPDATE: Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 has been Released Bringing Custom IPSW Option.

Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 5 And iPad 2 Possible As 5 Userland Exploits Found

The biggest news of the week is making waves and it we have received it with much zest. The Chronic Dev Team member, p0sixninja, has just found 5 new userland exploits that could lead to untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5 and iPad 2.

Userland exploits are software related and thus, can be used to patch softwares. Unlike hardware exploits, these exploits can be revised. The last time Apple revised their hardware was in 3gS and that was a long time ago.

According to P0sixninja:

It’s the record breaking number of exploits found.

From what we understand, this means that iOS 5 might be getting an untethered jailbreak sooner than expected, if Apple decides not to patch them up. iOS 5 for iPhone 5 is a slightly complicated matter as Chronic Dev Team would have to get their hands on an iPhone 5 to check if their exploits are compatible with its hardware.

Next month, when iPhone 5 and iOS 5 are released, we are expecting to see an untethered jailbreak within hours of its public announcement. Stay tuned for jailbreak news and views next month on our website.
