Search engine optimization commonly known as SEO is a technique whereby a webmaster structures their website so that their specific data can be easily found by search engines and reaches the top levels of those search engines.

Anyone who has ever built a website has been inundated with emails and offers to have their website moved to the top of a search engine like Google or Yahoo.  You’ll get all sorts of claims that within mere minutes you can get your website to the top of these search engines if you pay a fee.  That’s one of the oldest tricks in the online book and you need to be wary of such companies as far too many are just blowing smoke your way, meaning they’re making promises they can’t possibly keep by preying on your hopes.

You need to understand that only a real expert at SEO can achieve any results and it’s a constant process of monitoring and optimizing in order to beat the competition.  You will have a competitor on a daily basis, sometimes with a staff of people monitoring the changes in website position on a search engine so that should their websites fall in statistics to yours they move in like wolves to find out why.  They’ll analyze like crazy using everything from plain eye examination to advanced software analysis.  They’ll scrape every word, every phrase, every layout to figure out why your site beats theirs.

That’s why the first line of defense is to study SEO and the rules the search engines lay down for your site to do well.  There are some basics that anyone can pick up and it’s just not what you put on your site but how it’s displayed as well as how many other websites of relevance link back to your site.  Another factor in back links are relevancy.  If you have a website about fishing then you don’t want a back link from a website about automotive parts.  That would alert the search engines you may be up to a game of deception.

There are shrewd technicians out there so using SEO is something you’ve got to be on top of your game about.  The best thing to do is be honest with your site.  Design it well, only put up relevant data and not make it look spammy.  Flooding the text with unnecessary words will get you penalized by most search engines and it’ll be quite a chore gaining back your position.

So to start with some simple SEO keep it simple and keep on studying and tweaking.  If you do some research you will indeed find some reputable companies that do wonderful SEO.  Check for how long they’ve been in business as that would be an indicator of the fact they hadn’t been sued or hit by customer service watchdog groups.

I have seen in many blogging forums such questions “How can increase my Google search ranking?” asked by newbies. So, I have written this article for bloggers to answer their question. I have listed 7 SEO(Search Engine Optimization) tips to help you improve your Google rankings. Just implement these SEO tips and see your search engine rankings boosting.

1. Keywords:

Keywords are the words used by users to search for results. So, use of right keywords in posts help in increasing Google rank and thus attracting high traffic from search engines. You can use Google adwords or various keyword softwares like Keyword Tracker to track proper keywords that suit your article.

2 Title Tags Optimization

The title tags of your blog are ordered by blog name first followed by the title of the post. This is not ideal for popular search engines like Google and Yahoo which give more importance to the first words of a title.

3. Header tags

This is very important part of on-page optimization, which I was neglecting so long. These header tags h1, h2,h3,h4 are used to indicate title and subtitles according to their hierarchies. I will write an article on this separately.

4. Meta Tags

Meta tags are HTML tags that provide additional information about your blog that is unseen by visitors but available to search engines. The meta description tag, for example, provides a short summary of the page content. The keyword meta tags show the keywords and keyword phrases a visitor might use to find your blog. Because of abuse of meta tags search engines have become smarter and most no longer place emphasis on keywords to establish page ranking however keyword meta tags are still used by some search engines so it is a good idea to include them.

5. Anchor text

While using links in posts, it is general practice to use “here” or “site” as anchor text. For example, to provide a download link to software, one use “Download here” as anchor text. But, it would be better if you use “Download software here” as anchor text.

6. Title tags and Anchor Text

When anchor text is optimized, its time to look at title tags. Title tags come in role when you hover mouse over a link and content of title tags are displayed without user clicking link. This title tag is used to inform search engine spiders about the site you are linking to. So, why not use this title tag to include keywords??? So, title tags with keywords help in SEO.

7. Image alt tags

Generally, while including image in post, we just enter image tag with its source (img src=””). Alongwith this, include alt tags which tell search engine spiders about what image is actually about. Try using keywords in alt tags.I will post a detailed article on this Topic
